PopUpOFF is a free, open-source Google Chrome extension designed to instantly remove and block aggressive on-screen popups, overlays, and cookie consent banners that traditional ad blockers often miss. Created with a privacy-first mentality, the tool operates entirely on your local machine without tracking or analytics. How PopUpOFF Works
Unlike traditional blockers that intercept network requests, PopUpOFF scans a website’s document object model (DOM) code. It automatically searches for elements set to fixed, sticky, or absolute positioning. Once identified, it modifies the page style to instantly hide those elements and unlocks your web page scrollbar if an overlay has frozen it. Three Core Modes of Operation
You can toggle the extension via its toolbar icon or assign custom hotkeys (like Ctrl + X) to quickly clean a web page. It uses three modes:
Dormant Mode: The extension remains idle. The site loads normally. This functions as a built-in whitelist for trusted sites.
Moderate Mode: Strikes a balance. It removes aggressive popups and newsletter signup boxes. It leaves crucial elements like navigational top headers intact.
Aggressive Mode: Aggressively scrubs the screen. It wipes away every fixed overlay, sticky sidebar, and background dimming effect. Key Features
Ultra-Lightweight: Written entirely in plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, weighing under 100 KiB to ensure zero browser lag.
No Pay-To-Play Whitelists: It does not allow corporate advertisers to bypass filters for a fee. You retain absolute control.
Automatic Mode: Allows you to save your preferred default mode for newly visited websites so you do not have to click it manually every time.
Offline Functionality: Operates strictly locally without communicating with an external server.
